River in every direction

Wake to wildlife, passing barges, and long views across 2,400 feet of shoreline.

Exclusive to your group

Every bedroom, gathering room, outdoor space, and the attached guest house are included in one private reservation.

Pool days and hot-tub nights

Swim, soak, gather on the patios, or simply take in the changing light on the water.

A rare kind of close-to-home escape

As private as it feels, the Twin Cities are still within reach.

Grey Cloud Island sits inside the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. The setting feels wonderfully secluded: woods, water, open sky, and the whole point of the island to yourselves.

Come for a family reunion, a milestone weekend, or the simple pleasure of having nowhere else to be.

A four-season private retreat

Every season has its own rhythm.

The island changes with the river, the trees, and the light—but it never stops being a place to gather.

Secluded, not remote

Island quiet.
City close.

Grey Cloud feels wonderfully removed, yet arriving is surprisingly easy. Downtown St. Paul, MSP airport, Minneapolis, and major attractions are all within reach.

The story beneath the stay

Long before it was a retreat, this was a place of Dakota life.

Medicine Bottle led a Mdewakanton Dakota village on the island in the 1830s. The island later took the name of Grey Cloud Woman. Its history includes Spirit Wood, treaty displacement, river trade, and a local tradition of healing power that we are continuing to research.
